ACORN's Agenda

ACORN's Agenda Campaigns are far-reaching.
Among the issues are: Affordable Housing, Better Schools, Fair Tax Fees, Foreclosures, Gulf Coast Recovery, Health Care, Immigration, Living Wage, Paid Sick Days, Predatory Lending, Utilities, and Voter Engagement.

No wonder YomamaBama is in love with this group. He stands for everything they want.

Here's part of what's on their website regarding Immigration:

ACORN demands that lawmakers pass comprehensive immigration reform measures that include the following:

  • A path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States.
  • Protection for all workers – both native and foreign-born – by upholding fair wages and working conditions for U.S. and immigrant workers and by ending exploitation and abuse of undocumented immigrant labor.
  • Reunification of families through removal of restrictions and bureaucratic delays. Those who have waited in line should have their admission expedited, and those admitted on work visas should be able to keep their nuclear families in tact.
  • Restoration of the rule of law and enhancement of security by providing a path to permanent status with effective enforcement.
Wow, I guess all of the people who are following the rules to be legal immigrants don't matter.

Their take on "Affordable" [subsidized by the taxpayer] Housing":
ACORN is working to make affordable housing available so people in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods can be homeowners. ACORN members demand more rehabilitation programs aimed at developing affordable housing and increased production of affordable housing.

ON Fair Housing:

ACORN Fair Housing is a federally funded program through the Office of Housing and Urban Development’s(HUD) Fair Housing Initiatives Program ( FHIP) grant. It is our mission to prevent and eliminate discriminatory housing practices. ACORN Fair Housing Organization works to ensure equal housing opportunity by providing a variety of services through outreach, education and enforcement.

ACORN Fair Housing, while an independent organization , has it’s beginnings as part of ACORN, a 38 year old community activist organization.

Oh and those Predatory Lenders:

Predatory lenders target low-income and minority homebuyers, capitalizing on buyers’ lack of understanding of the complicated transactions or use outright deception to close loans that inevitably lead to a loss of equity or foreclosure.

ACORN strives to end abuses by actively putting pressure on predatory lending offenders and advocating for legislation, regulation, education and research to end abusive lending practices.

Geez it's not like someone held a shotgun to the buyer's head. Sigh. Why bother to be responsible when there's clearly no benefit involved. Responsible folks get whacked twice as hard and are made to feel badly about what they have.

In a way it's good that ACORN has become more public. If not last year, then when? Would have just gotten bigger and eaten away at everything. God help us during the next 4 years. That's a prayer.
